Two people found dead at filmmaker Rob Reiner’s home; Los Angeles police are investigating the case

The usual tranquility of Brentwood was shattered on Sunday afternoon when sirens blared down a residential street in West Los Angeles. At a residence on Chadbourne Avenue owned by director and producer Rob Reiner, two people were found dead, prompting a homicide investigation that still has police deployed in the area.

The emergency call came in at approximately 3:38 p.m., prompting units from the Los Angeles Fire Department to respond to the residence. Inside the home, paramedics found the bodies of a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman, who were pronounced dead at the scene. Shortly thereafter, the police ruled out natural causes and reclassified the case as a murder.

Police sources confirmed that both victims had stab wounds, a detail that heightened the seriousness of the incident and led the LAPD’s Robbery-Homicide Division to take over the investigation. High-ranking department officials arrived at the scene while the initial procedures were being carried out.

As the nite wore on, the scene also drew the attention of well-known figures from the neighborhood. According to a nearby resident, comedians Billy Crystal and Larry David arrived at the residence separately and stayed there for a few minutes. Crystal, the witness said, seemed visibly affected.

The Reiner family owns two houses facing each other on that block. In one house live Rob Reiner and his wife, while in the other lives his daughter with her children. It was at one of these properties that the discovery was made that today is shaking the exclusive neighborhood.

Rob Reiner, son of the legendary comedian Carl Reiner, built a solid career in Hollywood with era-defining titles such as The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, Stand by Me, and This Is Spinal Tap. He has been married to Michele Singer since 1989, with whom he has three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy. He was previously married to actress and director Penny Marshall, who passed away in 2018. His father, Carl Reiner, died in 2020 at the age of 98.

Meanwhile, authorities continue working to clarify what happened inside the home and who was responsible for the double homicide.
